Stepdown Unit

Complete Care After Heart or Vascular Surgery

Our providers at St. Luke’s Heart & Vascular Institute understand recovering from heart surgery can be hard. Our cardiovascular stepdown unit ensures you receive continuous monitoring and support from our specialized team.

Benefits of Our Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit

We designed the stepdown unit to help you move smoothly from intensive care to home. Immediately after surgery, you will be cared for in the intensive care unit. Your surgeon will see you often in the ICU and decide when it is time for you to move to the Stepdown Unit. The Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit is a 12-bed, all-private room unit located just one floor below the ICU in the Jack Taylor Heart Hospital. It’s a short trip, and this close distance reduces the stress of moving through different hospital areas, allowing you to focus on your recovery.

This specialized area is well-equipped to continue your recovery and help you prepare for the transition to home. In the stepdown unit, your care team will assist you in increasing your mobility, understanding your medications, setting up follow-up appointments and regaining strength so you are confident to return home.
