High-Quality Neonatal Care for Your New Baby

Babies who are born early or who are born with special medical needs require extra care and attention. That’s what you can expect at St. Luke’s.

We provide extra care and monitoring for babies with advanced medical needs in the Saigh Foundation Special Care Nursery. This level II neonatal nursery cares for premature infants born as early as 30 weeks and newborns with other medical needs. Our neonatologists, pediatricians, certified neonatal nurse practitioners and specially trained nursing staff members provide the advanced care and specialized support your baby needs.

Being Ready for the Unexpected

Neonatal Nursery Rooms

We work hard to offer a comfortable, healing environment and support for your family and newborn. In the Special Care Nursery, we’re proud to provide:

  • Amenities to encourage family bonding and educational opportunities
  • An advanced patient monitoring system with the latest technology
  • Spacious, private rooms
  • Specially designated spaces for twins and other multiples to stay together

Rooms include large windows, recliner chairs and special features such as warming lights over the sink for bath time right in the room. You’ll also find a separate lactation room with a flat-screen TV for additional space and privacy while breastfeeding.

What to Expect in the Special Care Nursery

Having a baby who’s sick or needs special medical care is overwhelming and can be unexpected for some parents. While in the Special Care Nursery, your baby may receive assistance with breathing or have IV therapy. Or they may receive treatment for complications such as infections, low blood glucose levels or heart defects. Some babies may only need specialized care and support for a couple days, while others may require a longer stay. Your baby’s healthcare team can answer any questions you have about their care plan.

We encourage you to visit your baby in the Special Care Nursery as much as possible and participate in your baby’s care. You can get daily updates by participating in bedside reports and patient rounds. You can also get bath demonstrations, helpful feeding hints and techniques, and CPR demonstrations to help you learn how to care for your baby.
