Preparing for Baby Checklist

A Trimester-by-Trimester Guide to Make Life Easier During Pregnancy

Preparing for a new baby is exciting, but you might find your to-do list is becoming overwhelming. Our maternity and pediatric experts are here to help you every step of the way. We’ve put together a pregnancy checklist organized by trimester of our recommendations to help you get ready for your baby.

Schedule your prenatal care with your OBGYN or primary care provider. If you don't have a provider or want to choose one who delivers at St. Luke's, call 314-205-6060. Our physician referral service nurses can help you find a provider who meets your specific needs. You can also search our online physician directory.

Call or email your maternity nurse navigator. She can provide personalized, concierge-style pregnancy and birth advice throughout your pregnancy.

Download our free Baby Bundle app, powered by YoMingo®. We designed the app to give you convenient access to valuable information at every stage of your pregnancy, birth and beyond.

Schedule a maternity tour to see where you’ll deliver your baby. We designed our private birth care suites and nursery to feel like home away from home while providing advanced technology to keep you and your baby safe and healthy. Call 314-205-6906 to schedule your maternity tour or ask your maternity nurse navigator about scheduling a private tour.

Create your birth plan. A birth plan helps you outline and communicate your preferences and goals for your labor and delivery. Discuss your wishes and options with your healthcare provider prior to your due date. You can use our birth plan document to help you plan and initiate these discussions. Your maternity nurse navigator can also help you craft your birth plan.

Register for one of our childbirth or breastfeeding classes. We offer hybrid and online childbirth classes and an online breastfeeding class to help you prepare for labor, delivery, newborn care and feeding. You can complete these classes at your own pace.

Pre-register online online for hospital admission for your baby’s birth. Registering before the big day will save you time and allow you to focus on welcoming your newest addition.

Choose a pediatrician before your baby arrives.

It’s time to pack your hospital bag. We’ve created a suggested packing list to make it easier for you.

Install your baby’s car seat. Contact your local police or fire station for help installing your seat. Many stations offer free programs that will show you how to install the seat. To find a certified child passenger safety technician in your area, and to learn more about car seats, visit www.seatcheck.org.
