High-Risk Pregnancy

What to Know About Maternal-Fetal Medicine

Your provider might classify your pregnancy as high-risk if they determine you, your unborn baby or both of you need additional monitoring and medical care. Extra monitoring and care are meant to reduce the possibility of complications you and your baby have before, during and after birth.

You’ll have 24/7 access to the highest level of maternal-fetal medicine. We specialize in caring for women who are diagnosed as high-risk or who are expecting twins, triplets or multiples. Having a high-risk pregnancy or carrying multiples doesn’t necessarily mean you or your baby will experience problems.

Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialists

We partner with the nation’s leading multispecialty telemedicine physician group, Access TeleCare, to bring maternal-fetal medicine specialists to you. Maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) is a subspecialty of obstetrics and gynecology in which doctors are receiving additional training to care for women experiencing high-risk pregnancies.

Through our partnership, our obstetricians and maternity providers can connect with board-certified maternal-fetal medicine specialists in minutes to provide comprehensive care to you and your baby. These experts are available on both an inpatient and outpatient basis if you have a high-risk pregnancy.

Maternal-Fetal Medicine Outpatient Clinic

Special Care Nursery

Our pediatric specialists are also closely involved to provide whatever your baby needs. The Saigh Foundation Special Care Nursery at St. Luke’s is designated a level II special care nursery, which means we’re experts in caring for babies born as early as 30 weeks or who need specialized medical care because of other concerns.

If your baby does require extra attention, our Special Care Nursery is just down the hall from where you’ll deliver to make it as easy as possible for you to stay close to your baby.
