Paula K. Schweitzer, PhD

Paula K. Schweitzer is director of research at St. Luke's Sleep Medicine and Research Center.
Dr. Schweitzer earned her undergraduate degree from Saint Louis University in 1971. She received her master's in 1973 and her doctorate in 1975, both in experimental psychology from Saint Louis University. She did postgraduate work at the Sleep Research and Treatment Center at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center (Penn State College of Medicine) in Hershey, Pa., from 1978 to 1981.
Dr. Schweitzer joined James K. Walsh, PhD, at the Sleep Disorders Center at the former Deaconess Hospital in St. Louis in 1981, eventually serving as assistant director until 1993. She became associate director of St. Luke's Sleep Medicine and Research Center in 1993 and director of research in 2008.
She has written more than 100 scientific manuscripts and book chapters. Her primary research interests include clinical pharmacology, insomnia, sleep deprivation, and the relationship of sleep and behavior. Dr. Schweitzer serves on the editorial board of the journal Sleep and as a reviewer for a number of professional journals.
