Medical Oncology involves the treatment of many types of cancer with various drugs such as chemotherapy, biological agents, hormone therapy and immunotherapy. The role of the medical oncologist is to discuss the disease process and treatment options, educate the patient regarding potential risks and benefits associated with treatment, manage symptoms associated with the cancer or its treatment to improve quality of life and provide ongoing periodic evaluations once therapy is complete.
