Stereotactic Radiosurgery

Advanced, Targeted Radiation Therapy

Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is therapeutic radiation we use to precisely treat cancers and other abnormalities while avoiding surrounding healthy tissue. SRS is a form of external-beam radiation.

The St. Luke’s radiation therapy team is proud to provide the latest advancements in stereotactic radiosurgery to patients with cancer. We customize your radiation oncology treatment plan based on your diagnosis. Our team-based approach to care means we work closely with other cancer specialists to coordinate your care for the best possible outcomes.

What to Expect During Stereotactic Radiosurgery

The benefits of stereotactic radiosurgery include:

  • Fewer risks than traditional cancer surgery or chemotherapy
  • Fewer side effects and less chance of getting an infection
  • Your doctor can use SRS to more safely treat tumors that are very close to hard-to-reach parts of the body or major organs

This treatment option is not traditional surgery, so there’s no incision. Talk to your doctor about potential side effects and how many treatments you’ll need. Your care team will help you manage any side effects. The procedure can take 30 minutes to several hours, depending on what kind of treatment you get. Patients can usually go home the same day.
