Pre-Op Classes
Our physicians require taking 2 virtual classes before surgery to help you prepare for the lifestyle changes you will need to make.
Pre-Op Nutrition Class
You'll attend this one-hour class close to your surgery date to coincide with when you start your liquid diet. During the class, we'll cover:
- Dietary and behavior changes for success with surgery
- Pre-op diet
- Protein supplements
- Diet advancements
- Vitamins
- Physical activity
- Post-op support groups
The class is held Mondays at 3 p.m. and Fridays at 9:30 a.m.
What to Expect Class
About 3-4 days before surgery, you'll attend a 30-minute class held by a MyNewSelf nurse. This class will cover what happens from when you check in at the hospital until you go home and what to expect at the hospital and at home. We'll also be discussing the importance of:
- Sticking to the post-op diet
- Staying hydrated
- Signs of dehydration
- When to call your doctor
- Follow-up care
This class is held Mondays and Fridays at 7:30 a.m.
Celebrate Success Peer Support Groups
The MyNewSelf program's Celebrate Success post-operative nutrition, lifestyle and peer support groups are a valuable resource for our surgical weight loss patients. In these sessions, we cover a variety of topics such as nutrition, exercise, controlling cravings, relationships and more, to help patients reach and maintain their weight loss goals.
- "Rookie" sessions are tailored to patients who are less than 6 months out of surgery and are offered on the fourth Tuesday of the month.
- "Pro" sessions are tailored to patients who are more than 6 months post-op are offered on the second Tuesday of the month.
