St. Luke's Hospital Stroke Care

Trusted Stroke Treatment for the St. Louis Community

As a Designated Stroke Center by the state of Missouri and with certification as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission, St. Luke's Hospital and its experienced stroke team are trusted experts for strokes and stroke-related complications in the St. Louis area.

Every year, those who believe they are experiencing stroke-related symptoms are immediately transported to us by various EMS agencies for early intervention and treatment. This often involves administering the clot-busting drug t-PA to appropriate stroke patients, which may stop a stroke in its tracks. This proven method of stroke care counteracts the damaging effects of stroke, which can lead to more successful outcomes for our patients.

"Time is Brain" therefore it is important that you or a loved one receive treatment at the closest Designated Stroke Center as it is your right to make your hospital preference known - like St. Luke's Hospital. If you or a loved one believe you're suffering from symptoms of a stroke, remember to act F.A.S.T. and call 911.

FACE: Ask the person to smile. Does their face look uneven?
ARMS: Ask them to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
SPEECH: Ask them to repeat a simple phrase. Does their speech sound strange?
TIME: If the person shows any of these symptoms, call for help fast.

Warning signs of stroke:
  • Sudden weakness of the face, arm or leg, most often on one side of the body
  • Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding speech
  • Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
  • Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
If you suspect you or someone you know might be having a stroke, remember to act F.A.S.T. CALL 911!
