Initial Consultation & Treatment Planning
The purpose of the initial consultation is to discuss the patient's diagnosis, obtain important information about the patient's past medical and family history that may impact the patient's care and determine if additional testing is required before cancer treatment options can be discussed. This initial visit may occur while the patient is in the hospital or may take place in the physician's office. The physician may make recommendations for treatment at this visit if no additional testing or information is needed. Once all of the necessary information is available, the physician will discuss specific treatment options with the patient and develop an appropriate treatment plan.
