Having your baby at St. Luke's means being able to labor, deliver, recover and care for you and your baby all in the same room. St. Luke's is one of only a few in the area that offers the convenience of LDRP (labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum) Birth Care Suites - so you don't have to move rooms mid-way through your hospital stay.
Our private, spacious suites are designed to provide a comfortable environment that feels more like home than a hospital with:
Large windows
Private bathrooms with large showers
Sofa sleepers for Dad or another support person to stay
Whirlpool labor tubs - several rooms offer this for moms choosing un-medicated, natural labors
Wi-Fi
Flat screen TVs with DVD
Hotel-style room service that allows you to select from a menu and order meals at your convenience. Plus, we treat Dad or your support person to a complimentary room service meal, too.
Cesarean Section Births Should a Cesarean birth become necessary, or for scheduled Cesarean deliveries, it is reassuring to know the Obstetrical Unit Operating Room is located just down the hall, adjacent to the Birth Care Suites.
Family Involvement Baby's father or support person is encouraged to share in the birth of the baby. Other family members also may be present, depending on the mother's wishes and her doctor's approval. During the first hours following birth, the mother, father and family members can actively participate in the newborn's care and feeding in the suite. Our "Wait for 8" initiative supports flexible timing for Baby's first bath to help promote family bonding and a successful breastfeeding experience.
As part of St. Luke's family-centered care, we encourage newborns to spend as much time in the suite as the mother wishes, unless medical conditions require otherwise. This helps you get to know your baby and his or her feeding cues with the backup of experienced nurses who can teach and assist you.
We realize that new mothers need time to rest and care for themselves. During these times, your baby may be cared for by nurses in our Well Baby Nursery, which is available 24 hours a day.
St. Luke's nurses are always available to help the mother with self-care needs as well as to attend to the needs of her newborn and family.
Dad or another support person is welcome to stay overnight. Each Suite is furnished with a sofa sleeper. Fathers and other guests also can take advantage of the same convenient room service available to hospital patients. And because Dad or Mom's support person also deserves special treatment on the occasion of your baby's birth, they receive a complimentary meal of their choice delivered through our Room Service.
