Cardiovascular surgery patients at St. Luke's are now able to recover from surgery in a new cardiovascular step-down unit. This redesign of the surgical services for the St. Luke's Heart Institute offers convenience and streamlined care for cardiac patients and their families.
The new unit includes 12 private rooms and allows cardiovascular surgery patients to receive care conveniently all on the same side of the hospital. Following surgery in the cardiovascular operating room suites, patients are taken to the cardiovascular intensive care unit just doors away. After 24 hours, they are now transferred one floor below to the new cardiovascular step-down unit. When discharged from the hospital, patients are just steps away from the entrance/exit.
