What is HIPAA?
HIPAA is an acronym for Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act of 1996. It is a federal law that allows persons to qualify immediately for comparable health insurance coverage when they change jobs. The legislation covers insurance portability, fraud enforcement (accountability) and administrative simplification (to reduce healthcare costs).
