St. Luke's Hospital Receives Women's Health Excellence Award

This is the fourth year in a row that the hospital has achieved this HealthGrades honor.

Chesterfield, Mo., July 26, 2012 - St. Luke's Hospital is a recipient of the 2012 HealthGrades Women's Health Excellence Award, ranking among the top five percent of hospitals in the nation for providing quality healthcare to women. This is the fourth year in a row that St. Luke's has achieved this honor.

The award is based on a study of patient results for common treatments such as heart care, vascular surgery, stroke care, respiratory services, orthopedic surgery and spine surgery.

"St. Luke's Hospital is committed to excellence in women's health," said Jan Hess, St. Luke's Hospital vice president and executive sponsor of St. Luke's Spirit of Women program. "As St. Louis' only Spirit of Women hospital, we encourage women to take action for their health and the health of their families, and we strive to provide exceptional women's healthcare services to help them achieve the very best quality of life possible."

HealthGrades is an independent healthcare ratings organization. To identify the 2012 Women's Health Excellence Award recipients, it examined Medicare hospitalization records for female patients at all of the nation's acute care hospitals for the years 2008 through 2010. To be included in the analysis, hospitals must have met minimum thresholds in patient volumes, quality ratings and the range of services provided. Hospitals cannot opt in or opt out of this analysis.

For the past six years, St. Luke's has been the only Missouri hospital recognized as one of America's 50 Best Hospitals by HealthGrades, ranking among the top one percent of hospitals in the nation for clinical excellence based on survival and complication rates.

In October, another report published by HealthGrades ranked St. Luke's number one in Missouri for cardiac services and neurosurgery. The study also named St. Luke's number one in the state for neurosciences (neurosurgery and stroke treatment combined), critical care and gastrointestinal medical treatment. Other HealthGrades honors St. Luke's has achieved include the Emergency Medicine Excellence Award (2011 and 2012), the Outstanding Patient Experience Award (2011 and 2012) and the Pulmonary Care Excellence Award (2005-2012).
