St. Luke's Hospital Achieves Women's Health Excellence Award for Sixth Year
St. Luke's is the only Missouri hospital to receive the Healthgrades honor this many consecutive years.
Chesterfield, Mo., July 11, 2014
- St. Luke's Hospital has received the 2014 Healthgrades® Women's Health Excellence Award™ for the sixth year in a row. St. Luke's is the only Missouri hospital to achieve the Healthgrades honor this many consecutive years (2009-2014).
The recognition distinguishes St. Luke's as a top-performing hospital in women's health services, including cardiac care, vascular surgery, stroke care, respiratory services, orthopedic surgery and spine surgery.
"Improving the quality of life for all of our patients is our mission at St. Luke's Hospital," said Jan Hess, St. Luke's Hospital vice president and executive sponsor of St. Luke's Spirit of Women program. "And as St. Louis' exclusive Spirit of Women hospital, St. Luke's is focused on consistently providing exceptional gender-sensitive healthcare."
Healthgrades is an independent healthcare ratings organization. To identify the 2014 Women's Health Excellence Award recipients, it examined hospitalization records from 2010 through 2012 for female patients at the nation's nearly 4,500 non-government hospitals that treat Medicare patients. The data is risk-adjusted, which takes into account differing levels of illness severity at different hospitals and allows for hospitals to be compared fairly. Hospitals cannot opt out of this analysis, and no hospital pays to be evaluated.
In addition, St. Luke's is the only hospital in St. Louis to be named one of America's 50 Best Hospitals™ by Healthgrades since the inception of the list (2007-2014). This analysis ranks St. Luke's among the top one percent of hospitals in the nation for consistent clinical excellence based on survival and complication rates.
According to Healthgrades, St. Luke's is also recognized among the top five percent of hospitals in the nation for overall cardiac services (2013-2014), overall pulmonary services (2003-2014) and neurosurgery (2012-2014), and St. Luke's is a recipient of the Healthgrades® Outstanding Patient Experience Award™ (2011-2014).
