Chesterfield, Mo., February 1, 2013
- The Saigh Foundation has awarded a $1 million grant to St. Luke's Hospital. The grant will benefit the families who utilize St. Luke's neonatal special care nursery, which has now been named The Saigh Foundation Special Care Nursery. Specifically, the gift will fund medical equipment and treatment as well as enhanced professional staff training and parent education.
"Family involvement is instrumental in nurturing the health of babies," said Diane Ray, St. Luke's Hospital vice president of patient services. "In addition to funding necessary medical equipment and treatment, The Saigh Foundation grant will ensure our dedicated team is able to continue helping parents understand how to care for their infants when they go home."
The Saigh Foundation's mission is to enhance the quality of life in the St. Louis metropolitan region through support for charitable projects and initiatives which primarily benefit children and youth through education and health care. These objectives continue to support the community interests shown by Fred M. Saigh during his lifetime.
"Fred would be very pleased that we are continuing to work with St. Luke's. The hospital was always very special to him," said JoAnn Hejna, executive director of The Saigh Foundation.
St. Luke's Level II neonatal special care nursery is available to provide medical care for premature infants, including those delivered as early as 30 weeks, and babies with other special medical needs. Neonatologists, pediatricians, certified neonatal nurse practitioners and specially trained nursing staff supervise the nursery 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
