Town & Country Man Races to Benefit St. Luke's Life & Hope FundThe fund directly assists St. Luke's Hospital patients with cancer who lack resources for medically necessary supplies and services.CHESTERFIELD, MO, July 10, 2012 - Starting August 18, Eric Strand, a Town & Country, Mo. resident and marathon runner, will compete in the 2012 Leadville Trail 100 Run to benefit the Life & Hope Fund at St. Luke's Hospital. The fund directly assists patients with cancer who lack adequate financial resources by helping pay for services and supplies such as prescription medications, medical equipment/supplies, nutritional supplements and transportation to medical appointments. The 100-mile, 30-hour race, one of the toughest in the world, will take place near Leadville, Colo. through the Rocky Mountains at elevations averaging over 10,000 feet. Strand, the husband of Tami Strand, St. Luke's Hospital director of clinical performance improvement, decided to fundraise for St. Luke's Life & Hope Fund as part of his Leadville journey as an added incentive. "Like most people, cancer has hit home in my family," said Strand. "Tami and I are proud to support a program that directly impacts people in need in the St. Louis community." The Life & Hope Fund, established in 2001, ensures that patients with cancer or malignant blood disorders lacking adequate financial resources have access to quality medical treatment. St. Luke's patients who are in need of medically necessary services and supplies are eligible to apply for assistance. "We see the positive impact the Life & Hope Fund has on our patients," said Diane Jorgenson, St. Luke's Hospital director of social services. "We encourage anyone interested to support Eric Strand's efforts to help us to continue offering this source of funding to those in our community who are in need."
