National Hospital Quality Study Ranks St. Luke's Hospital Number One in Missouri for Neurosurgery and Cardiac ServicesThe independent study also finds St. Luke's number one in the state for neurosciences, critical care and gastrointestinal medical treatment.CHESTERFIELD, MO, October 18, 2011 - St. Luke's Hospital ranks number one in Missouri for neurosurgery and cardiac services according to a study published today by HealthGrades, a leading independent healthcare ratings organization. The study also names St. Luke's number one in the state for neurosciences (neurosurgery and stroke treatment combined), critical care and gastrointestinal medical treatment. Earlier this year, St. Luke's was also recognized for the fifth year in a row as one of America's 50 Best Hospitals by HealthGrades, ranking St. Luke's among the top one percent of hospitals in the nation based on superior clinical quality. St. Luke's is the only hospital in Missouri to receive this quality designation since the inception of the list. "We are honored to be nationally-recognized for providing quality healthcare services," said Gary Olson, St. Luke's Hospital president and chief executive officer. "The highest honor, however, is the opportunity our dedicated healthcare team accepts every day to make a difference in the life of each patient. Through the consistent efforts of St. Luke's experienced physicians, staff and volunteers, we strive to improve the quality of life in the St. Louis region." For the HealthGrades 2011 Healthcare Consumerism and Hospital Quality in America Report , HealthGrades focused on hospital survival and complication rates and analyzed millions of Medicare hospitalization records from 2008 through 2010 at all 5,000 hospitals in the United States that treat Medicare patients. Hospitals cannot opt in or out of the analysis, and no hospital pays to be rated. HealthGrades risk-adjusts data to account for differences in patients, such as age, gender and/or chronic diseases.
