Birth Care Suites
St. Luke's offers one of the few Birth Care Suites in the area that allow moms to labor, deliver, recover and spend their postpartum stay all in the same room. Newly renovated in 2014, each private, spacious suite includes large windows, a sofa sleeper and a private bathroom in a room designed to feel more like home than a hospital. Amenities like flat screen TVs and DVD players, free WiFi and hotel-style room service provide additional comfort and convenience. Several rooms also offers labor tubs for moms choosing natural childbirth.
Should a Cesarean birth become necessary, the Obstetrical Unit Operating Room is located just down the hall, adjacent to the Birth Care Suites.
The baby's father or support person is encouraged to share in the birth of the baby. Other family members also may be present, depending on the mother's wishes and her doctor's approval. During the first hours following birth, the mother, father, and family members can actively participate in the newborn's care and feeding in the suite. Parents may request to watch their newborn receive his or her first bath.
As part of St. Luke's family-centered care, newborns may spend as much time in the suite as the mother wishes, unless medical conditions require otherwise. We realize that new mothers need time to rest and care for themselves. During these times, the newborn may be cared for in our Well Baby Nursery.
St. Luke's nurses are always available to help the mother with self-care needs as well as to attend to the needs of her newborn and family. In the Birth Care Suites, fathers are always welcome to stay overnight. Fathers and other guests also can take advantage of the same convenient room service available to hospital patients. And because dads also deserve special treatment on the occasion of their baby's birth, they receive a complimentary meal of their choice delivered through our Room Service. Daddy Dining coupons are delivered to dads after baby's birth.
