Physician CPOE Training
St. Luke's Hospital's Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) launched May 2012. The Cerner system includes PowerChart and PowerNote (the physician documentation system). The CPOE system will allow you to quickly select 'order sets' of tests for your patients that are evidence-based and meet all quality initiatives allowing St. Luke's to continue to provide the best and safest patient care as well as meet all regulatory reporting initiatives. PowerNote allows you to document real-time events while avoiding dictation delays.
Why we implemented an electronic system?
St. Luke's Hospital initiated an electronic medical record not only in response to changes in the Federal Government's healthcare reimbursement policies for hospitals, but also because of the many advantages that could come from the entry process.
We can reap these direct benefits through optimal use of the system:
- Reduction in translation errors when orders are entered directly into electronic health records (EHR).
- Decrease in time from when the test or medication is ordered to patient care.
- EHR programming has built-in safety features that automatically check for drug interactions and drug allergies.
- Improved compliance with evidence-based medicine and governmental regulations.
