Student volunteers work one 4-hour shift per week on the same day and time for the whole summer. Shifts are available Monday through Friday. Morning shifts are from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and afternoon shifts are from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Please note that we cannot customize schedules; volunteer roles are based on the needs of the hospital and the students’ availability.
We encourage dedicated, organized students who want to help others and can commit to volunteering weekly during the summer to apply. See the chart below for session dates, application deadlines, and the mandatory orientation date.
St. Luke's Hospital follows strict health and safety rules for our community, staff, and volunteers. Any changes to the program or timeline will be posted here.

Application Process
Summer volunteer positions are limited, so all applications will be reviewed during the application period. Selected students will be contacted for an interview and potential volunteer opportunity. If chosen, students must complete a clearance process before starting volunteer work. The clearance process includes:
- A urine drug test
- A criminal background check (social security number needed)
- A blood test to check for tuberculosis, measles, mumps, and rubella
- A review of your immunization record
- Proof of a current flu vaccine (or you must agree to get the vaccine)
You must be 16 years old when you submit your application. You can apply next summer after you turn 16.
Volunteer shift times are fixed, and you need to complete a full morning or afternoon shift to meet the 34-hour requirement. Arriving late or leaving early means you won’t be able to finish the program.
Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait until next summer to apply. Be sure to look for information about the program early next year.
The program requires you to be available at the same time each week for the whole summer. You can miss up to two shifts, but you must have a regular schedule to help the hospital departments. If you can’t volunteer consistently on a weekday morning or afternoon, you won’t be able to participate.
