Weight loss surgery changes not only your body -- reducing your risks of many serious and chronic diseases -- but also your quality of life. Yet, myths still persist about the surgery. Dr. Matthew Ricks, a bariatric surgeon with MyNewSelf Bariatrics at St. Luke's Des Peres Hospital "weighs" in on fact versus fiction when it comes to weight loss surgery on KMOV's Great Day St. Louis.
"People who come to us for bariatric surgery have been through multiple attempts at losing weight," Dr. Ricks said. "They've been successful; some of them have even lost 100 pounds. The problem becomes once they stop whatever program they're in, all the weight tends to come back. Then it becomes a vicious cycle of gaining and losing, gaining and losing. Bariatric surgery is really the one step in helping them maintain that weight loss."
