What Is Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy?
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a condition where the myocardium (heart muscle) becomes enlarged, which makes it difficult for the heart to pump blood efficiently. It’s one of the leading causes of heart-related sudden death in people under the age of 35.
Many people with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy have no symptoms. If you do experience symptoms, some of the most common include:
- Chest pain
- Dizziness
- Fainting
- Fatigue
- Rapid or irregular heartbeat
- Shortness of breath
