St. Luke's Residency Program
As you embark on the wonderful journey of your medical career, allow me to introduce you to St. Luke's Hospital Residency in Internal Medicine. At St. Luke's, we maximize resident performance and achievement in the challenging yet comfortable, supportive environment of an outstanding community hospital. St. Luke's has been a Health Grades Top 50 Hospital in America nine straight years representing the top 1 percent of US hospitals in Medicare mortality and hospital complication rates. Our top quality medical staff consistently outperforms the region.
The St. Luke's Residency in Internal Medicine is accredited for 41 residents, typically 12 categorical and 2 preliminary residents annually. We have one program director, two associate program directors, and a program administrator. The inpatient training at St. Luke's Hospital is exceptional. Rotations on Inpatient Medicine, Cardiology services, ICU, and Emergency Departments are all on the St. Luke's campus. Our affiliation with St. Louis University School of Medicine allows residents to take electives in a university-based academic setting. Outpatient ambulatory training is largely focused on Peoples Health Center, a public health clinic designed for the underserved population of St. Louis City. There are additional outpatient experiences at St. Luke's Hospital, spending time with our top-notch internists and subspecialty physicians.
The residents at St. Luke's perform at a high level and demonstrate outstanding scholarly achievement. Our morning report, always a highlight for interviewees, combines a journal club with a case presentation four days a week. While an important element of resident education, the discussion is lively and good natured. Our PGY-3 residents each have the opportunity to present a CPC for the entire medicine department. We participate annually in the American College of Physicians, Missouri Chapter poster competition at Lake of the Ozarks. In September 2014, we won second place awards in the Resident Vignettes and Patient Safety and Quality Improvement category against stiff competition. Our residents are actively involved with the quality assurance initiatives at St. Luke's Hospital and Peoples Health Center.
