What is HIPAA?

HIPAA is an acronym for Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act of 1996. It is a federal law that allows persons to qualify immediately for comparable health insurance coverage when they change jobs. The legislation covers insurance portability, fraud enforcement (accountability) and administrative simplification (to reduce healthcare costs).

How HIPAA affects you when you contact customer service: St. Luke's will verify we are releasing account information to the appropriate party. You will be asked to verify your personal information when you contact us in order to verify your identity.

If you want St. Luke's to release or discuss your account information with another individual, you must authorize the release verbally or in writing. To release information, contact customer service, or print, complete and return the attached HIPAA compliant patient authorization form for release of information.
