James R. Scharff, MD, specializes in cardiothoracic surgery. He shares a practice with Ronald D. Leidenfrost, MD, FACS, Cordie C. Coordes, MD, FACS and J. Gregory Lugo, MD, FACS at Cardiothoracic Surgery at St. Luke's Hospital.
Dr. Scharff received his medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He was chief resident and completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Saint Louis University Hospital. Dr. Scharff is board certified in cardiothoracic and general surgery.
Dr. Scharff focuses on all aspects of general thoracic and cardiac surgery. His areas of special interest include beating heart, or "off pump," coronary artery revascularization, complex reoperative cardiac surgery, valve repair, pulmonary and esophageal surgery, complex aortic reconstruction and surgical treatment for atrial fibrillation. Dr. Scharff is also a member of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
