St. Luke's Hospital was recognized in 2007, 2008 and 2009 as one of America's 50 Best Hospitals by HealthGrades, an independent healthcare ratings company. St. Luke's Hospital was the only healthcare facility in Missouri and a ten-state region (also including Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota) to be named one of America's 50 Best Hospitals - ranking among the top one percent in the nation based on superior clinical quality over a nine-year time period.

National Study Gives St. Luke's Five-Star Ratings in Several Specialties for 2010
The 12th Annual HealthGrades® Hospital Quality in America Study ranked St. Luke's Hospital among the top performers in a number of clinical specialties, including pulmonary, gastrointestinal and critical care services. St. Luke’s Hospital ranked number one in Missouri for critical care, which includes treating severe conditions such as respiratory failure and sepsis.
In the 2010 report, St. Luke's Hospital achieved five-star ratings for the following:
- Heart attack treatment
- Back and neck surgery with spinal fusion
- Gastrointestinal surgery
- Treatment of bowel obstruction
- Treatment of pneumonia
- Treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Treatment of diabetic acidosis and coma
- Treatment of pulmonary embolism
- Treatment of sepsis
- Treatment of respiratory failure
This was the third year in a row that St. Luke's rated best in the St. Louis area for pulmonary services, such as treatment of pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). HealthGrades® analyzed nearly 40 million Medicare hospitalization records from 2006 through 2008 at the nation's approximately 5,000 non-federal hospitals for the 2010 study.
2009/2010 Women's Health Excellence Award
St. Luke's Hospital was the only Missouri hospital to receive the HealthGrades 2009/2010 Women's Health Excellence Award™, rating among the top five percent of all hospitals nationwide for providing quality healthcare to women.
The award is based on a study of patient outcomes across 16 common procedures and conditions such as heart care, vascular surgery, stroke care, respiratory services, orthopedic surgery and spine surgery. To determine the recipients of the award, HealthGrades analyzed more than 2.6 million hospitalizations using Medicare data from all 50 states from 2005 through 2007.
National Study Ranks St. Luke's Best in St. Louis for Spine Surgery and Pulmonary Care and Top 3 in State for Cardiac Care for 2008
A HealthGrades® study of hospital quality in America identified St. Luke's Hospital among the top performers in a wide variety of clinical specialties. According to the HealthGrades® study, St. Luke's is:
- Rated best in the St. Louis area for spine surgery
- Rated best in the St. Louis area for pulmonary services such as treatment of pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Rated among the Top 3 hospitals in Missouri for cardiac care for the second consecutive year
St. Luke's received 5-star ratings for the treatment of heart failure and for stroke care for the fifth consecutive year. Patients admitted to the nation's top-performing hospitals with multiple five-star ratings such as St. Luke's, have average mortality rates that are 71 percent lower than those treated at one-star rated hospitals across 18 procedures and conditions, according to the study.

St. Luke's Heart Institute Honors
St. Luke's Heart Institute received the 2007 Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care from Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield in recognition of high standards of clinical care, processes and outcomes.
St. Luke's Heart Institute has also been designated a UnitedHealth Premium Cardiac Specialty Center based on evaluations of quality processes, adherence to evidence-based approaches, compliance with nationally recognized guidelines and capability to handle cardiac treatment through a continuum of stages.
100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare
St. Luke's Hospital ranked 22nd on Modern Healthcare's inaugural 100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare list, making it the highest ranking hospital in St. Louis. The new program recognizes workplaces in healthcare that enable employees to perform at their optimum level to provide patients and customers with the best possible care and services. To determine these workplaces, Modern Healthcare entered into a partnership with the Best Companies Group, a Harrisburg, Pa.-based firm that conducts regional "best places to work" programs across the country.
On behalf of Modern Healthcare, the Best Companies Group conducted two surveys of healthcare companies across the nation that volunteered to participate in the program. Top 100 Hospital for Overall Performance
In the annual study 100 Top Hospitals: National Benchmarks for Success, the Solucient healthcare database recognizes hospitals and their management teams that demonstrate superior clinical, operational and financial performance. St. Luke's was named a Top 100 Hospital for six out of ten years (2005, 2004, 2002, 2001, 2000, 1996). For its consistent achievement of Top 100 status for overall performance, St. Luke's was named one of 77 Benchmark Hospitals in the nation. St. Luke's is the only hospital in the St. Louis area to be consistently designated a Top 100 Hospital for Overall Performance and a benchmark hospital.
