Electrophysiology Study

The Robert Paine, MD Heart Institute at St. Luke's is dedicated to advanced technological procedures that are used to study the heart's electrical function. St. Luke's opened a dedicated, state-of-the-art electrophysiology (EP) laboratory in 2006. The new lab is located within the existing Cardiac Catheterization Lab.

Electrophysiologists can locate sites inside the heart that may be causing arrhythmias. The electrophysiologist works with a specially trained team of nurses and technologists to study and treat arrhythmias. Based on the location of the arrhythmia, a range of treatment options is available, all of which will be performed in the EP lab. Those treatment options include radio-frequency ablation, pacemaker and implantable cardiac defibrillator (ICD) implantations.
