Girls in the Know Program
Girls in the Know is an organization designed to educate and empower mothers and their pre-teen daughters. Led by professionals, this 4-week interactive speaker series touches on topics such as self-esteem, friendships, health and nutrition, body image, safety, bullying and the challenges of puberty. The mission of this program is healthy communication between mothers and daughters through education that will encourage pre-teen girls to make positive choices as they mature into adulthood. Home Alone
This program is designed especially for children ages 9 to 11 who may be staying home alone for the first time or need to learn more skills for parents to be comfortable leaving them home alone. Topics include: handling the unexpected, stranger danger, simple first aid, dealing with loneliness and boredom, storm safety, trust and honesty.
Child may not be registered for Home Alone and Sitter Skills on the same day.
Fees: Children Ages 9 to 11: $15.00  Employee Rate: $10.00

Sign up for classes offered monthly for 3 to 6 year olds or for children 6 to 10 years of age.

Sitter Skills
This program was developed for beginning baby-sitters, girls and boys, age 11 and older to help make their baby-sitting experience a success. The class will cover: basic information needed before you start baby-sitting, safety information, first-aid and child development. Each baby-sitter receives a participation certificate, baby-sitting handbook and bag. A light snack is provided. Classes taught by St. Luke's health educators.
Child may not be registered for Home Alone and Sitter Skills on the same day.

Sleep Issues in the Young Child (For Parents Only)
Join Nancy Birkenmeier, BSN, RN, child sleep specialist, for a frank discussion about children and common sleep problems. Though it's common for children to develop sleep problems, if they continue for long periods, the child's daytime functioning may be impaired. This presentation will cover topics such as healthy sleep practices, strategies to improve a child's sleep, common sleep transitions, co-sleeping versus sleeping alone, the practice of "cry it out" and more. Parents of newborns to school-age children welcome. For parents only.
